Are you looking for a shoulder pain doctor who can accurately diagnose the discomfort in your shoulder? Our Chiropractor, Doctor David Hoewisch, at Hoewisch Family Chiropractic in Santa Clara diagnoses and treats shoulder pain that is the result of a sports, repetitive motion, injury or referred pain from the neck.
Shoulder pain can be caused by a variety of conditions and injuries. You may even experience a shoulder injury after a car accident or while playing sports of lifting weights. Common shoulder injuries that we treat include:
Inflammation of the Shoulder Joint (Bursitis)
Rotator Cuff Injury
Sprains and Strains
Shoulder injuries can cause a multitude of symptoms, including pain. The pain may be intermittent or constant or only occur when you move your arm. Some injuries, like a rotator cuff injury, can get worse without treatment.
Arm and Shoulder Weakness
Bruising or Redness
Constant or Intermittent Pain
Inflammation and Swelling
Loss of Range of Motion
Unable to Lift Your Arm Above Your Head
The shoulder is an extremely complex ball and socket joint. Your upper arm fits into the shoulder blade and is held in place by muscles ligaments and tendons. A large number of those muscles and tendons make up your rotator cuff, which is responsible for the range of motion of your shoulder.
Any injury to the muscles, tendons and ligaments of your shoulder can result in pain and stiffness. If you are unable to lift your arm above your head, experience shoulder pain while moving your arm or notice muscle weakness or instability in your shoulder, it is time to schedule an appointment with our shoulder pain chiropractor.
When you first come into our chiropractic office, our chiropractor, Dr. David Hoewisch, will take a complete medical history and examine your shoulder. You may be asked to move your arm and perform other physical tests to determine the severity of your injury, and he may opt to take digital x-rays to get a clearer picture. Once all the information is gathered, you will receive a complete diagnosis and any questions you have will be answered. We will also explain your treatment plan. At that time, you can opt to have your first treatment.
Our shoulder pain treatment programs can encompass a variety of therapies, including extremity joint adjustments. We offer several types of chiropractic adjustments, including the Korean Specific Technique (KST), which is a relatively new type of adjustment.
The KST technique offers a more focused approach because we will evaluate your entire body to determine where you are misaligned and if you have any muscle imbalances. This can help determine if any misalignments in your body are increasing your risk of a shoulder injury. Once all the evaluations are completed, we will perform your KST adjustment.
Manual chiropractic adjustments to the shoulder joint involve a smooth swift thrust in order to push the joint back into its proper alignments. This can help maximize the range of motion of your shoulder and lower inflammation while aiding the healing process.
Activator adjustments are another type of adjustment that many individuals find more comfortable than a traditional chiropractic adjustment. Should pain doctor recommend this treatment, it involves placing a small handheld device, called an Activator, next to the dysfunctional joint and activating it. The Activator then delivers a precise adjustment to the affected joint.
When you injure your shoulder, your ability to move your arm is decreased. This can cause the unused muscles to weaken, and weak muscles can lead to reinjury. Should pain doctor recommend this treatment, it involves performing targeted exercises and stretches that are designed to target your injured muscles and strengthen them.
