Manual Adjustment, or Manual Force Chiropractic Adjustment (MFCA), is one of the first and most common types of chiropractic adjustments. MFCA is usually requested by the patient because that’s what they are familiar with. It helps just like KST (Koren Specific Technique) with stiffness, pain, and/or soreness in the neck, back, and other joints, like the extremities.
This usually happens when regular massages and common chiropractic practices such as muscle stimulation, infrared and laser therapy, do not help to remove or solve the stiffness, pain, or soreness in those areas.
Deep force adjustment is a specialized method used by chiropractors who use their hands for a low amplitude, high speed thrust to targeted and specific areas of the neck, back, and joints. This is done to loosen up the joints that seem to be stuck, to make them more flexible and to lessen the pain and discomfort of the patient. Most of the time pain is due to improper motion between any two bones. Adjustments restore that motion and the pain usually resolves.
A professionally trained chiropractor should perform MFCA. Dr. Hoewisch is well trained and has 31 years of experience in performing such a complicated task.
Practically anyone with a stubborn neck, back, or joint pain and stiffness can benefit from MFCA if that is their preferred method of treatment. We are finding that most of our patients have moved to the KST low force adjustment due to its gentle nature. Also, restrictions around a joint area can be worse when the muscles surrounding it become stiff thus resulting in muscle spasms, joint pains, inflammation, and restrictions due to scar tissues.
Adjustments help remove subluxations. Subluxations are nerve interferences in the spine. They can be due to any one or more of the three “T’s”: trauma, thoughts, or toxins.
Controlled manual force requires a trained chiropractor to perform such a task. This is a process that helps restore the motion between the joints that the body was not capable of restoring naturally. Here are some more details:
The human spine has three different layers which are interconnected. The outside layer is muscles, next are the bones and joints, and the inside layer is the nerves. When the stresses of everyday life affect the muscles and joints, then you have a back problem (read that as pain, stiffness, soreness). But when the stresses of everyday life also affect the innermost layer, the nerves, then you have a health issue whether you know it or not. When the third layer (the nerves) is affected, that’s when you can come down with organic problems, such as irritable bowel syndrome, heartburn, asthma, high blood pressure, hot flashes, just to name a few.
Adjustments, whether they are the deep force, manual type, or the more gentle KST type, stimulate the nerves of the spine to reprogram the brain so that the brain then sends the correcting and healing message through the nerves to the offending organ, whether it’s a muscle or an internal organ. The chiropractor helps by using controlled force and energy to stimulate the nerves to reprogram the brain to get the muscles and organs to work properly. It’s that simple.
Before using medicines that may contain harmful substances or side affects to solve your discomfort, try having your health issues respond naturally through chiropractic care.
